Every statistic displayed here is retrieved directly from Wikidata when the page loads and refreshed automatically every few minutes, no manually updated figures, no cached data. Add a new biography of an African academic or scientist today, and you will see the impact reflected almost immediately.

Select any African country to discover academics and scientists who are documented on Wikidata but are still missing a Wikipedia article in English, French, Arabic, Portuguese, or the country's official local-language edition. The dashboard also highlights where content gaps are higher including the gender disparities that the Wiki AfroDemics Project is working to address.

Scientists & academics per country, article coverage, and the gender split — refreshed automatically.

Language coverage: every country checks English, French, Arabic, and Portuguese Wikipedia for every person — not just the country's "home" language — plus each country's specific official local language where one is set (Swahili, Amharic, Malagasy, Somali, Kinyarwanda, Spanish). Someone only counts as a genuine gap if they have no article in any of those. The "With EN" / "With FR" columns below are shown for scale, but the Gap column reflects the full multi-language check.

Auto-refresh: off by default — once the 54 countries load, the table just stays as-is rather than re-querying everything on a timer (that was the source of the repeated timeouts). If you turn it on, it only retries countries that are still showing an error; anything that already loaded successfully is left alone.
